Como no podía ser de otra forma, un triunfo tan categórico ha despertado la atención del cine. Así que desde hace unos años Warner Bros. tiene la idea de convertir Minecraft en una película, y para ello se ha asociado con Legendary (el estudio que también ha cofinanciado con la major las películas de Dune), Vertigo y Momoa's on the Roam. Esta última es la productora, obviamente, de Jason Momoa, que por otro lado está destinado a ser el protagonista del film. Sea quien sea este, porque cuesta bastante imaginar cómo puede ser una película de Minecraft.
Solo puede desafiar su liderazgo GTA V, pero los números hablan por sí solos: desde su lanzamiento en 2011 Minecraft ha vendido 300 millones de copias en todo el mundo, y reúne a 140 millones de jugadores activos al mes. Es una salvajada que le erige sin problemas como el videojuego más exitoso de todos los tiempos, habiendo hecho a su creador Markus Persson (alias "Notch") una persona muy rica que asimismo tiene muy contentos a sus jefes de Mojang y Microsoft.
